This two-hour virtual poetry experience is designed to guide participants in transforming personal and collective trauma into powerful written expression. Through grounding practices, guided writing prompts, and dynamic performances attendees are given space to process, reflect, and create. The session builds toward a supportive open mic, where participants can share their own stories of survival, healing, and growth. With community care at its core, this workshop holds space for both quiet introspection and brave vulnerability. Whether you’re new to writing or a seasoned poet, this experience invites you to turn your pain into poetry—and your poetry into power. Ticket Prices: $10

Meet your Host: Sweetie Magee is a multi-hyphenate artist from the vibrant city of New Orleans, LA. As a writer, slam poet, vocalist, spoken word artist, and event curator, she channels the raw and unfiltered narrative of her life into her work. Sweetie is a national performer, currently ranked among the top 25 Women Poets in the World and is also a 2024/2025 Literary & Performing Arts Resident at Tulane University’s A Studio in the Woods.
Emerging as a powerful voice that challenges the notion of perfection, she inspires others to embrace their authenticity. Through her artistry, Sweetie Magee continues to uplift and empower, leaving an indelible mark on the literary and performance landscape.

Meet John James. John James is a distinguished poet, educator, and community leader based in New Orleans, Louisiana. He is a member of the 2025 Slam New Orleans competition team, and the host of the "Pass It On", the longest running Open Mic in New Orleans. The platform has been showcasing local talent and fostering artistic expression for over 15 years. Through this initiative, John has been instrumental in providing a space for emerging poets to share their work and connect with the community.
In addition to his work with "Pass It On," John James has been involved in various cultural events, including the "Pass It On Fest," which celebrates African American poetry. This festival highlights the rich literary traditions of the African American community and serves as a gathering point for poets and enthusiasts alike.
Beyond his artistic endeavors, John James is committed to youth justice advocacy. He actively engages with organizations dedicated to reforming the juvenile justice system, aiming to provide equitable opportunities and support for young individuals in New Orleans. His
involvement underscores his dedication to social justice and community empowerment.
